WET weather threated Round 3 of Mount Gambier and District tennis over the weekend, but there were still some matches completed.

In the Division 1 competition on Saturday the fixture between Uniting Church and Reidy Park was called short due to the rain after just two sets had been completed.

However, over at Olympic Park Centrals/Uniting/Gambier and West Gambier were able to complete their encounter, albeit with a couple of interruptions to clear water off wet courts.

At the end of the day the combined team claimed the honours in a tight contest, with just two games the difference after both sides won six sets each.

Andrew Van den Hurk proved hard to beat in the top men’s singles, with a 6-1 win over George White, while Ben Gaffney also won for Centrals/Uniting/Gambier with a 6-3 result over Shaunn Robinson.

Brady Cook chipped one back for West in the men’s singles with a 6-2 victory over Dane Heemskerk.

The women’s singles had Tessa Megaw claim a closer 7-5 win over Jessica Stutley, but the remaining two rubbers were won by West.

Emily Jolley defeated Alita Huyser convincingly with a 6-0 scorecard, while Ella Jolley accounted for Rylee Seidel 6-3.

The doubles followed the same trend and with three sets each, it came down to game difference to decide the overall result.

The closest doubles rubber was played between Huyser and Seidel against the Jolleys, with the latter pair winning 7-5.

Over at Mount Schank the home team was able to host Glencoe for another completed Division 1 fixture.

However, the home-court advantage was not enough on the day, with Glencoe too strong as it claimed a 10-2 set win.

Alex Laube won his singles against Will Hann 6-0, while the only other success for Mount Schank was Nell Eastough’s 6-4 win over Jorja Mitchell.

Dylan Childs was too strong in the number one men’s singles to win 6-0 over Oscar Geddes and Patrick Mitchell defeated Brendan McInnes 6-2.

Rounding out the women’s singles, Sarah and Laura Edwards claimed 6-1 and 6-2 results over Abbey Hood and Kaitlyn Nisbet respectively.

Glencoe won all six doubles sets to stamp its authority on the round.

The closest rubbers were a couple of 6-4 victories, as Patrick Mitchell and Hann combined for the win over McInnes and Laube, while Mitchell and Laura Edwards managed managed the same result against Eastough and Hood.
