ROUND 2 of Mount Gambier and District tennis served up a rare anomaly, when West Gambier and Glencoe shared the points with a draw in Division 1.

At the end of the day both teams had won six sets for a total of 60 games, for an occurrence which does not happen often in tennis.

The top rubber men’s singles was won by Glencoe’s Dylan Childs 6-4 over George White, while West’s Emily Jolley won the number-one women’s singles against Jorja Mitchell 6-2.

A tight contest was had between Shaunn Robinson and Patrick Mitchell, with the former winning in a tie-break.

West’s Ella Jolley also had an arm wrestle with a 7-5 win over Laura Edwards.

The remaining singles were won by Tim Biggins over Noah Lang 6-3, while Joanne Sealey defeated Sarah Edwards 6-2.

While West had the advantage in the singles, the doubles’ results tied things up, as Glencoe won four of the six sets.

A couple of close sets saw Mitchell and Biggins win 7-5 over Lang and Brady Cook, while Sealey and Ella Jolley did the same in their win over the Edwards girls.

The result puts Glencoe and West in second and third on the ladder respectively on game difference, while Centrals/Uniting/Gambier jumped to the top with a win over Uniting.

Played at Olympic Park, the combined side claimed a six-set victory over its rival.

Andrew Van den Hurk claimed the top men’s singles with a 6-2 win over youngster Jace Maxwell.

Centrals/Uniting/Gambier’s Dane Heemskerk and Ben Gaffney also won their singles, 6-1 and 6-4 respectively.

Tessa Megaw won the top women’s singles with a solid 6-3 result over Ashlea Dunn, while a convincing 6-0 win for Jade Delaney came against Casey Walker.

Uniting’s only singles success was recorded by Vanessa Maxwell, who defeated Alita Huyser 6-3.

Uniting managed two wins in the doubles, as Walker combined with Maxwell and Ashlea Dunn for victory.

However, the remaining sets went to the combination team, with Megaw and Huyser recording the closest result with a 7-5 win over Dunn and Maxwell.

The final Division 1 meeting for the round was also played at Olympic Park, where Reidy Park outclassed Mount Schank for a commanding 11-1 win.

The only set to go the way of the guests was Will Boston’s 6-2 win over Henry Haywood, with the remaining matches won by Reidy.

Bailey Young had the closest singles match with a 7-5 win against Nell Eastough in the top women’s rubber, while Zayne Young and Haywood combined for a 7-5 victory over Oscar Geddes and Boston in the men’s doubles.

After a loss in Round 1, Reidy will be pleased to have bounced back in a big way and start its ascent up the ladder.
