WITH just a slight drizzle, the weather was perfect for the quarter finals of the 2022 club championships at the Blue Lake Golf Club, along with a stableford competition for those not involved in quarters.

In Division 1 it was always going to be a battle between Ronda Edwards (1) versus Rosemary Martland (8) both very skilful in match-play a very different game, where you have to out-think your opponent as well as use good course management.

Edwards was 1-up on the turn then ramped it up with wins on the 19th, 12th and 13th, holes.

Martland fought back with wins on the 11th and 15th but a win for Edwards on the 17th saw her take the victory 3/1.

Sue Agars (2) and Karen Panagopoulos (7) were square after the outward nine, the scores see-sawing and still square after 18 holes forcing sudden death going to the 19th of which Agars was the victor.

Josie Ashby (3) and Dianne Perryman (6), both with finals match-play experience also had a close game, square after the front nine, with four holes squared, but Perryman claimed wins on the 12th, 13th, and 16th to cement the win.

Cherryl Hill (4) and Helen Stratford (5) enjoyed a good match-up, Stratford was 2-up on the turn but was only able to win one hole and it was all Hill’s way, winning six holes for the 3/2 victory.

The Division 2 final between Beryl Mahoney (1) and Lee Anderson (8) took Mahoney by surprise, with Anderson winning the first two holes.

Mahony then settled to win the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth holes, squaring the ninth to turn 3-up.

Anderson was only able to take one win on the 14th holes with a few squared, while Mahoney claimed another three holes to guarantee her a 5/3 win.

Next was Jaynee Oberer (3) and Rose Case (6), with Oberer taking control from the start, turning 4-up.

Case did try and stop the rot, squaring the 10th and 12th but wins for Oberer on the 11th and 13th handed her the win 6/5.
