LIMESTONE COAST WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE UNDER 16 GIRLS

NORTH GAMBIER 3.12 (30) d KONGORONG 1.1 (7)

THE North Gambier Tigers claimed a comfortable victory in the season opener at Kongorong on Saturday.

It was a slow start with neither side able to kick a major score in the first quarter.

The Tigers led by four points at the first change but took control of proceedings in the second term.

The Hawks were held scoreless in the second quarter after managing the solitary point in the first term.

North Gambier broke the deadlock for major scores with the first goal of the game and held a 12-point lead at half time.

Kongorong captain Evie Sealey kicked her side’s only goal of the game in the second term but the Tigers continued to dominate with two goals of their own and held a comfortable lead of 20 points at the final change.

The Hawks were held scoreless in the final term as North Gambier claimed an impressive 23-point win.

Penny Coleman was named best on ground after a strong performance where she was instrumental to her side’s victory.

HATHERLEIGH 12.6 (78) d KYBYBOLITE 0.4 (4)

In their inaugural game, the Hatherleigh Under 16 Girls claimed an emphatic victory in the second clash of the day.

The Eagles’ first fixture could not have started any better, as they kicked a goal after just 26 seconds.

The goal was a sign of what was to come as Edie Easterby was dominant in the ruck to give her side the advantage at every stoppage and as a result, was named best on ground.

Hatherleigh’s dominance was reflected in the score-line as it held a 19-0 lead after the first term.

Things would not get any better for the Tigers as Hatherleigh’s rampaging performance continued in the second term and Kybybolite was held scoreless up until half time.

The Eagles’ lead of 38 points quickly grew in the third term as they kicked six majors to take the game out of sight and led 77-1 with one quarter to play.

The Tigers scored three points in the last quarter and held Hatherleigh to one point but the damage was already done.

Niah Faulkner was lethal in the Eagles’ forward line with six majors for the game.

She was supported by Sebella Coghlan and Bella Gysbers who both kicked two goals.

NORTH GAMBIER 10.6 (66) d SOUTH GAMBIER 1.1 (7)

North Gambier continued its momentum in its second game of the day with an emphatic 59-point win over South Gambier.

The Tigers stormed out of the blocks to take a 20-point lead at quarter-time after they kicked three majors for the term.

After being held scoreless in the first stanza of play, the Demons kicked their first goal of the season in the second quarter through Sophie Wight.

However, it was all in vain as North Gambier flexed its strength to extend its lead to 25 points at the main break.

The Tigers added another four goals in the third quarter to take the game away from the Demons and their lead was extended to 52 points at three-quarter-time.

North Gambier kicked one final goal in the fourth quarter to claim a resounding victory.

Heidi Berkin was the best on ground with an impressive display.

HATHERLEIGH 8.10 (58) d KONGORONG 1.2 (8)

After a one-sided victory in its inaugural game, Hatherleigh claimed a dominant victory in its second clash of the day, this time against the hosts Kongorong.

The first quarter was a tight contest and neither side could be split at the first change with both sides scoring 1.2 (8).

However, despite nothing to separate the two teams in the first stanza, the Eagles soon took control of the game and the hosts were held scoreless for the rest of proceedings.

Hatherleigh added two majors in the second quarter, to lead by 16 points at the main break.

This lead then extended to 29 points after three quarters of play, before a strong final term saw the Eagles kick three goals to claim a 50-point win.

Hatherleigh’s Chloe Bellinger led the goalkickers with three majors, ahead of Amber Chester and Macy Burns, who both kicked two goals for the game.

After an impressive first match where she kicked two major scores, Gysbers backed her performance up with a strong display against the Hawks and was named player of the match.
