THE Blue Lake Knights suffered a loss at the hands of the Stawell Mounties in Saturday’s Limestone Coast rugby league fixture.

The Knights worked hard throughout the game and ran three tries over, then converted two of those, but the top-of-the-table Mounties were simply a class above, as they ran away to a 36-16 victory.

The Mounties are the form team of the competition at this early stage, with three strong victories to set the benchmark for 2022.

They began their onslaught early in the opening term, with the first try coming just minutes into the contest.

They notched up four tries before the Knights could bother the scorers, with captain Lloyd Pearce-Raisin the first on the board for the Mount Gambier side.

Donovan Wood scored the Knights second try some five minutes later to keep in touch, but the Mounties then added another two before the Knights could add their third through Christopher Driver.

Brent Dries kicked two of the three conversions for the Knights.

The Mounties will be tough to beat this season for all sides, after taking care of Warrnambool Raiders last round in devastating fashion.

They opened their account in Round 1 with a strong win over the now second-placed Naracoorte Jets and look to be in a league of their own.

All things considered, it was a solid effort from the Knights.
