BLUE Lake Archers Indoor events Friday night returned to the familiar format of a pair of Australian 18-metre rounds where a wide spread of scores in round one turned around and ended in a tight contest for the second round.

Ben Kilsby was in a class of his own in the initial round.

His score showed a clean pair of heels to his rivals, winning the round by an eight-point margin to second placed Tamika Mullan.

Overall there was a 23-point difference across the competing archers.

With everyone suitably warmed up and any bugs ironed out, round two was in for big shake up.

Jeff Puckridge found and extra 10 points, Mullan another five but Peter Donhardt put the others in the shade as he rocketed up the score sheets, finding 30 points more than his earlier effort.

Donhardt finished the round three points above his benchmark for the adjusted handicap scores to claim the win by seven points from Kilsby.

The overall spread after adjustment dropped back to only 11 points across the group.

Sunday afternoon’s outdoor archery attracted a visitor from Western Australia.

Darryl Miller is from the Bowmen of Melville club in southern Perth and competes in the 70+ male recurve division.

A three-distance World Archery 60/900 was selected for the afternoon’s event, comprising a total of 90 arrows spread as 30 arrows at each of the distances of 60, 50 and 40 metres.

Mullan and Puckridge carded new Personal Bests for the round.

It was Miller’s first foray into the World Archery 60/900 therefore setting a benchmark for his future competition in the round.

Mullan’s effort proved her to be the superior archer on adjusted scores on the day, leading Kilsby home by seven points.

Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park on Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm on Sunday.
