IT was an historic weekend for the Tigers Hockey Club, as it became the first club to secure all five men’s titles in the one year.

DIVISION 1 MEN – TIGERS 5 d WEST 2

HAVING won all other men’s grades, it cam down to Tigers’ final clash in the Division 1 grand final against West to complete the sweep.

Despite a quick start from West, the game became a relatively one-sided affair as Tigers powered towards a 5-2 victory.

West scored in the opening two minutes off a well-executed short corner through Gavin Robertson, but Tigers responded with a short corner of their own.

From the second quarter it was a hard-fought tussle as Tigers had several missed short corner opportunities before Brady Cooper finally converted a slick variation to take a 2-1 lead into the long break.

Tigers came out hot after the break and Jarryd Burston swept in a loose ball from the spot to make it 3-1 in the opening minutes.

The fourth goal was a beautifully executed drag flick from a short corner to league leading goal scorer Aaron Mengler, before Tigers’ fifth and final goal was put through by Connor Bartlett soon after to ice the game.

With the game effectively killed off, West managed to score a consolation goal in the fourth quarter through Robinson but it was too little, too late.

Connor Grant was awarded best on ground for his dominant midfield performance for Tigers.
