A FORMER Mount Gambier dressage and horse training sensation will test the bond with his steed on the world stage this weekend.

John Thompson will contest the 2022 World Equestrian Games in Denmark, following a

Thompson is currently based in Sydney, but rides for birth-country New Zealand where he owns and operates an equestrian facility.

He moved to Australia at the age of 12, where his family settled in Mount Gambier.

Thompson completed his schooling at Tenison Woods College, while fuelling his love for all things horses at the Mount Gambier Pony Club.

He dabbled in all equestrian disciplines, before deciding to focus on dressage.

Thompson left the Limestone Coast in pursuit of furthering his horsemanship career, with his most recent success at the Grand Prix held in Sydney this April.

He and horse JT Chemistry won the dressage event, while finished second in the special dressage category.

He will look to continue his success on the black stallion over the next week, with the World Games dressage starting tomorrow and running until Wednesday.
