WEST Gambier franked its premiership credentials on the weekend with a dominating first half against South Gambier.

The Demons had no answer to the relentless pressure and the slick ball movement of the Roos as they set themselves up for an eventual 38-goal win.

The 40-11 halftime scoreline told the story and while the Demons were a much improved outfit in the second half, the damage had been done.

South has now slipped out of the top four and faces the task of beating Millicent in this week’s final minor round to see if it can creep back into contention.

The Roos’ win was built on their defensive work across the court and any ball which did make it through the mid court was often turned over by Amy Cram and Jade Ritter.

Tara Bryant controlled the mid court and she continued to deliver the ball to Lisa McGregor and Sarah Ritter in good position.

The first half saw the Roos convert 40 goals from 47 attempts and that weight of supply – compared to South’s 20 attempts – showed just how dominant West was in the opening half.

Sophie Wight, who filled in at centre for the unavailable Megan Reid, had a good battle with Bryant, especially given their gap in experience in the top grade.

Ruby Richter was also strong on the defensive wing and a key player in transition.

Bryant and Cram were the Roos’ best, while Sarah Ritter and McGregor continue to be a high-scoring shooting combination.
