EAST GAMBIER V MILLICENT

EAST Gambier will look to iron out some wrinkles after a disappointing loss to West last round.

Up against another top-two side in Millicent, the Bulldogs will be eager to prove their title defence remains a reality.

The Saints enter the clash off the back of a draw with North Gambier and having had a tough tussle with East the last time the two met, will be well prepared.

Every match up will be intriguing.

East shooter Amryn Bosko and Saints defender Portia McRae are two of the most promising teenagers in the competition.

Theirs will be one of the pivotal battles of the day.

East shooter Sarah Lock has started to find her mojo since returning from a calf injury and her battle with Hannah Nitschke will also be critical.

In the centre Tarsh McCallum is the epitome of speed and smarts for the Bulldogs and will find herself up against either Lisa Duldig or Georgia Clarke, who have been sharing the wing defence and centre roles.

Whichever Saint is not looking to limit the influence of McCallum will have the equally difficult task of not letting Emily Hunter run riot.

Hunter had a quiet start to 2022 by her lofty standards but she is hitting her straps now and her influence at both ends of the court can be match shaping.

The East defensive combination of Bo Creek and Morgan Amy have the toughest task in the competition at the moment, limiting the scoring opportunities of Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena.

Much of East’s success over the past few seasons has been built off the back of defensive pressure and that will need to be the case this weekend.

However, Millicent should post a winning score to return to the winner’s list.
