WEST Gambier proved too much to handle for East Gambier in their Round 14 meeting at Malseed Park.

The Bulldogs entered the clash having found some strong form and a consistent line-up at their disposal.

The reigning premiers would have been keen to test themselves against one of the 2022 competition benchmarks, but the Roos proved too strong with a solid opening half setting up the win.

It was an 11-goal lead for West at the main break and that blew out to 21 by the final whistle.

The third quarter was arguably the most dominant as West won the term 15-6 to put the result beyond doubt.

Jade Ritter and Amy Cram continue to loom as a tough defensive combination and to keep a side to six goals was impressive to say the least.

The story of the match came down to supply.

West generated 74 scoring opportunities and East had 53, while the accuracy battle was won by the Roos as well.

Zoe Malseed had her best game for the season and made life tough for East feeders.

She generated some important touches and also played a role in transition with her strong drives and accurate passing.

Her efforts were complimented by the creativity of Lisa McGregor out the front of Sarah Ritter, which was also critical in the comprehensive victory.

One of the match-ups of the contest was West’s Tara Bryant and East’s Emily Hunter in the centre.

They ran hard, contested strongly and both played pivotal roles for their teams.

Both sides would have been happy with their defensive efforts, as it was one of the lower scoring contests for the season.

However, while West still found ways to score, the Bulldogs have some work to do at the offensive end of the court.

Sarah Lock played a similar creative role for East in attack and Hunter was as influential as ever, but there remains work to do be done to keep the premiership defence on track.
