WEST 2 d CAVALIERS 0

WEST claimed revenge with a solid two-goal win over the Cavaliers in the latest round of Lower South East hockey.

The last time these two sides met, Cavaliers claimed a shock win and West were keen to make amends from the outset.

Despite the best efforts from David Vine and Brayden Burston, West was held goalless at the end of the first quarter.

Sean Fabian was strong in defence to keep West scoreless as the deadlock was still yet to be broken at halftime.

However, West eventually broke through as a baselines cross was converted by Jack Lieshman to give his side the lead.

The Cavaliers were forced to attack more as they found themselves on the back-foot.

West made the most of this and added a second goal just before three quarter time.

The last quarter was evenly contested as West’s keeper Roy Hutchesson was forced to make some saves.

Despite the Cavaliers’ best efforts, West held strong in defence and kept a clean sheet.

TIGERS 5 d STRIKERS 1

In the top of the table clash, the Tigers flexed their strength with a dominant four-goal win.

Aaron Menglar starred as he scored four goals to seal victory for his side.

Menglar and Strikers’ Jordan Millhouse have been the top two goal scorers in the league this season.

The Tigers’ win means they have a one-game buffer over the Strikers at the top of the ladder.

Division 1 Women

TIGERS 1 d/w STRIKERS 1

The Tigers looked to continue their strong run of form when they took on the Strikers.

However, they were without young midfielders, Abbey Hood and Brooke Marcus as well as the experience of fullback Deb Hicks.

The re-shuffled Tigers side looked to continue their recent dominance but the Strikers were up to the task.

Despite a being faced with a number of changes, the Tigers opened the scoring when Latisha Adam made a perfect deflection which Strikers goalkeeper, Kate Fabian could not do anything about.

Kaitlyn Nisbet dominated in the middle of the field and fed the ball to the wingers effectively.

However, despite the impressive efforts from Olivia Turner who made her presence felt as she ran everywhere on the field, the Tigers were unable to hold on to the lead.

In the lead-up to halftime, Cathy Ashby deflected a shot past goalie Linda Dodds and levelled the game.

The second half was an arm wrestle and the Tigers had the slight ascendancy but strong defence from Chloe Boylan, meant the game ended in a draw.

WEST 2 d REDBACKS 1

In the top of the table clash, West used its squad depth to its fullest to claim a win over the second-placed Redbacks.

The first quarter was an even contest through the midfield and neither side was able to take control of the game.

West looked strong out and its pace proved an issue for the Redbacks’ defence.

However, Rachel Curtis was up to the task in goals.

West was rewarded numerous short corners but was unable to convert any of them, while it remained strong in defence whenever the Redbacks ran forward.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the second quarter when Dana Jones scored for West.

The Redbacks hit back soon after when Meg beck capitalised on a short corner to make it 1-1 at halftime.

The Redbacks’ midfield in Anna Mitchel and Steph Wighton proved a challenge for West but the league-leaders eventually took the lead again.

Ash Dunn won the game for West with a goal as the defence held out strong to claim victory.
