THE first quarter between North Gambier and West Gambier at Vansittart Park set the tone for the contest – it was going to be a high scoring affair.

That was exactly how it panned out as the Roos scored over 80 goals for the second consecutive week, taking the win 81-61.

The opening term returned a 21-18 scoreline in favour of the Roos as the two in-form goal shooters – West’s Sarah Ritter and North’s Caroline Wakefield – were focal points again.

Ritter netted 17 from 20 and Wakefield converted 15 from 16, leaving plenty of work for both defensive outfits.

North youngster Alysha Coon had the job on Ritter and the inexperienced defender did her best to deny her easy ball.

However, the weight of supply proved too much, as well as the speed of ball coming in and it ensured Ritter continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

With Mel Renko missing from the Tigers’ backline, versatile teenager Lauran Norman lined up alongside Coon.

Given their inexperience as players and as a combination, their efforts were commendable.

Ritter nailed 18 from 23 as West surged to an 11-goal half-time lead, before the margin was extended to 19 by the final break.

Wakefield continued to be accurate as well, but she did not see enough of the ball.

In the end North’s 74 scoring shots to West’s 96 told the story, with both sides finishing accurately.

The respective goal attacks were also in good and were the key feeders on the day.

Lisa McGregor, who swapped bibs with Ritter in the final quarter, was strong for the victors, while Macey Griffith shone brightly again for North.
