WITH the winter Solstice last week, it was probably inevitable the rain would make an appearance and it did just that at the Blue Lake Golf Club but fortunately it came when most were in the clubhouse.

Despite the cool conditions, 23 women teed off for the stableford competition and once again most scores reflected the heavy course conditions.

Trudy Herbert and Ronda Edwards both signed for 33 points in Division 1 with a count-back favouring Herbert, who had the better back nine.

Playing off a 27 handicap, Herbert had splits of 15/18 and included two three-pointers, one scrub and was able to score her allotted two points on the remaining holes.

Off 15, Edwards had splits of 16/17, with pars on five holes and no scrubs on her card.

Third-placed Beryl Mahoney was only able to muster 13 points on the outward nine but turned her fortunes around on the inward nine to play to her handicap and finish with 18 points, which included pars on the 11th and 14th holes.

Kate Hommelhoff claimed the win in Division 2, 10 points ahead of second and third places.

Hommelhoff’s scorecard included five three-pointers, along with three scrubs to finish with 32 points off a 34 handicap.

A count-back was required between Dianne Allen and Lesley McPherson, both with 22 points.

Allen did have a highlight with a birdie-two on the par 3 fifth hole and the better points score on the back nine to claim second place, while McPherson settled for third place.

Nearest to pin second shot winners were Edwards and Allen, while Hommelhoff won the pro-shot on the par 3 fifth hole.
