Millicent v South Gambier

SOUTH Gambier faces another challenge this week when it travels to McLaughlin Park to face Millicent for Round 11.

The Demons certainly showed improvement last round when they took on West Gambier for the second time this year and will hope for the return of defender Ellie Bouchier this week.

They could also need to cover the loss of Ruby Richter to an ankle injury, which will add further challenges to an already tough game.

The Saints, on the other hand, are a settled line-up and boast no shortage of depth.

Millicent’s attack line is all class, with the speed and smarts of Demi Verbena and Paige Nitschke, the hard running and work rate of Lisa Duldig and the strength under the post of Tabatha Sanderson.

At the other end, Georgia Clark continues to loom as a key piece of the puzzle on the defensive wing, while Hannah Nitschke and Portia McRae are an emerging defensive combination.

The Nitschke-McRae battle with Alyssa Duncan and Lara Munro will be an intriguing one.

South’s mid court of Megan Reid and Tully McShane will need to be patient with ball in hand and think their way through the relentless defensive pressure with which the Saints are synonymous.

At the other end of the court, Grace Edwards looms as a good match up for Sanderson, while Bouchier will look to use her athleticism to try and break up the aerial feeds into the Saints shooting circle.

It is hard to mount a case for a Demons victory but they will look to vastly improve the scoreline – both how much they allow Millicent to score and also the tally they can muster themselves.
