EAST Gambier welcomed back Sarah Lock to the shooting circle against ladder leader Millicent on Saturday.

However, the unavailability of defender Morgan Amy and star mid courter Emily Hunter made things tricky and the 2021 champions are still yet to put their preferred starting seven on court after 10 rounds.

That being said, they started well against the Saints, with Chloe Perryman taking the defensive bib alongside Bo Creek.

A perfect 11 goals from 11 attempts from Amryn Bosko ensured it was a goal-for goal contest with Millicent only one goal clear at quarter time.

The second quarter was also tight as both teams looked to work the ball through tough defensive pressure across the court.

By the main break Millicent had edged out to a four goal lead.

The Saints started to take control in the third and with shooter Tabatha Sanderson having her best quarter to net 11 from 13, the lead was 10 at the final change.

No team is keen on celebrating honourable losses but East would be happy to have matched it so closely with Millicent without Hunter or Amy and keep the damage to a 14-goal margin.

Tarsh McCallum was a standout for the Bulldogs and patrolled the mid-court with tenacity, while Bosko looked to be returning to her best in goals.

The mid-court of Lisa Duldig and Georgia Clark were best for the Saints as they worked hard both in transition as well as placing defensive pressure on East feeders.
