Golfers face cool conditions

THE third round of the Grant and Dianne Perryman Short course yellow marker trophy was played in cool conditions for the 23 women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

Some greens underwater the previous couple of days caused the cancellation of the SE District Cudmore Bowl, which will be rescheduled for later in the year.

The course held up well for the stroke competition, albeit a little heavy underfoot.

The scratch rating was 60 and the adjusted handicap range was 1-17 for Division 1 and 18-34 for Division 2.

The competition sponsors were Mark and J’Ami Lane from the RSL Bistro, with the winners receiving the sports award vouchers.

The minor placings received Blue Lake Golf Club vouchers.

Division 1’s Lee-Anne Medhurst cruised home by one stroke from her nearest competitors, carding 76/12/64, which included three pars in her front-nine 40, along with three pars and a birdie for her back-nine 36.

Second and third places both finished on nett 65 to force a count-back.

Ronda Edwards (71/6/65) had the better back nine score, which included five pars and three birdies.

Her outward nine included three pars.

Third-placed Josie Ashby signed for 75/10/65, with eight pars and a birdie.

Lynette Hirth claimed the win in Division 2, with a score of 94/28/66.

The outward nine of 43 and 51 on the inward nine included a par on the 18th hole.

Second-placed Lee Anderson also finished well, carding 101/33/68 from a front-nine 53 which included a par on the dog-leg ninth hole, followed by a back-nine score of 48.

Bev Pascoe rounded ou the podium with 88/18/70, including pars on the second, eighth, 11th and 13th holes.

Nearest to pin second shot winners were Rosemary Martland and Lucy Richards, while Carol Megaw won the pro-shot.

Birdie prize winner’s went to Jaynee Oberer on the sixth hole, Edwards on the eighth, ninth and 16th, Martland and Helen Stratford on the 13th and Medhurst on the 15th.
