THE Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club’s 2022 two-day Men’s Fours competition was hailed the most successful, with 28 teams vying for the honours.

Regions represented were Adelaide, Horsham City, Kingston, Beachport, Portland, Nhill, Millicent, Hopetoun, Naracoorte, Robe, Edenhope, Port MacDonnell, Mount Gambier and Mount Gambier RSL, with numerous composite sides entering.

The format saw a total of seven games, with four games of 12 ends on the first day and three games of 12 ends on the second day.

The team finishing with the most points over the two days would be declared the winners.

While the weather was changeable, all games were completed, with some of the best bowlers on show from around regional South Australia and Victoria.

After the first day play there were only four teams undefeated and it was clear it would be a close competition.

The second day continued to produce tight games and other teams found their form to come into contention for the various prizes.

At the conclusion of the competition it was the strong team of Michael Fox and Gary Fox (Mount Gambier RSL), Brian Roper (Millicent) and Ken Smith (Robe) which surged to victory, taking out the main prize with seven wins and a total of 140 points (54 ends and 81 shots up).

Runners-up were from the Portland Bowling Club skippered by Tom Englezos with six wins and 120 points (45 ends and 36 shots up).

Daniel Gloury (Horsham) led a composite side to third place with five wins and a draw to register 110 points (46 ends and 26 shots up).

Jack Vaucer skippered a joint team from Kingston/Lucindale to fourth place with five wins and 100 points (51 ends and 32 shots up).

Adam Wilson from the Mount Gambier club skippered his composite side also to five wins and 100 points (48 ends and 36 shots up) to finish fifth and the final prize position went to the Sam Denton skippered team who also had five wins to finish on 100 points (47 ends and 16 shots up).

Winner for day one was the Naracoorte/Mount Gambier RSL team skippered by Ian Williams and day two winner was another composite side skippered by Gary Feast (Mount Gambier RSL).

Presentations were performed by Mount Gambier Mayor Lynnette Martin who expressed her congratulations to all bowlers, helpers and sponsors in making this a major success for the City.

It was a major coup for the Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club to hold this event and attract such a fine array of bowlers to perform and they look forward to next year’s event to continue its successful patronage.
