THE final quarter was the difference when West Gambier defeated North Gambier in their anticipated clash on the courts.

It loomed as an arm wrestle and for the most part it was as the Tigers attempted to put a dent in the Roos’ 2022 campaign.

Both teams boast impressive shooting duos and it was a battle between the goalies on the day.

North enjoyed a two-goal lead at quarter time, before West turned the tables to hold a five-goal advantage at the half.

The Tigers remained in touch and narrowed the margin back to two heading into what looked to be a hard-fought fourth term.

However, that was not the case as West’s entire roster rose to the occasion to win the quarter by 10 goals and secure a 12-goal victory.

West defenders Amy Cram and Jade Ritter created plenty of turnover ball as the entire Roos line-up restricted the Tigers’ movement.

Their scoring opportunities were significantly limited, while the Roos maintained a high standard under the post as Sarah Ritter showed off some impressive long-range accuracy.

As expected, Sarah Ritter and Caroline Wakefield were the focal points at either end, with the former netting 49 from 62 and Wakefield converting 39 from 43.

Both goal attacks were also important and it was not surprising to see Lisa McGregor and Macey Griffith among their side’s best players.

In the end, the match came down to the dominant final quarter where West generated 26 scoring shots to North’s 10 in an anticlimactic finish to an otherwise close game.

Sarah Ritter continues to be a thorn in her opponent’s side and the Tigers tried both Zahra Crough-Heaton and Lauran Norman on her over the course of the match as they attempted to limit her influence.
