Tigers too strong on windy day

Bella Poulish loos to add to her goal count in Tantanoola's win over Kongorong on Saturday.

Tantanoola showed its class in tough conditions for Round 6 of Mid South East netball at Kongorong.

Despite the wind blowing hard and rain descending, the Tigers claimed a comfortable victory.

The first quarter saw both the Tigers and the Hawks go hard at the ball and took time to settle.

Kongorong’s Evie Sealey was on from the first whistle and worked hard with the front cut to make the most of the ball under the post.

The Tigers settled earlier than the young Hawks, with the attack of Tantanoola getting a good look at the ball, taking a three-goal lead to the first break.

The wind backed off in the second quarter and the defensive lineups for both teams lifted.

Tantanoola’s Bella Poulish and Kongorong’s Riley Buckingham battled hard in the circle, both influential for their respective sides.

The Tigers shooters had a dominant quarter, with Poulish shooting 10 from 13 for the quarter, fed well by Casey Walker and Madi Kelly.

Tantanoola pushed its lead out by 11 at half time and the Hawks had plenty to do in the third quarter to keep in touch.

Kate Wright worked overtime at wing attack for the Hawks in both offence and defence while Kate Bromley applied pressure and led Tantanoola’s defensive line to give her team a lift.

Emma Gould was strong at goal attack, while Walker found another gear in the third term, as the Tigers outscored the Hawks 18-9.

Both sides fought hard in the final term but in the end the Tigers did enough to claim a comfortable victory.

Best for the victors were Poulish and Gould, while Wright and Sealey were best for Kongorong.
