The contest went down to the wire as Hatherleigh and Glencoe fought out a classic game for Round 6 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

Glencoe started the game strongly and netted four goals before Hatherleigh was able to hit the board.

However, the momentum turned quickly, with Hatherleigh’s Demi Vanderhorst getting her hands on plenty of ball, enabling re-entry into the Eagles’ goal circle.

The Murphies entered the first break trailing by three goals, then with a new-look goal circle of Jenna Paproth and Laura Edwards, utilised the front space to reduce the impact of Vanderhorst.

Tegan Telfer found her feet for the Eagles, with plenty of easy access to the circle edge.

As a result Hatherleigh increased its lead to five at half time.

The Eagles came out of the main break with a point to prove and the space game of Vanderhorst and Lara McGregor forced Glencoe into error, helping Hatherleigh to a 10-goal lead midway through the quarter.

However, a strong rebound from Chloe Pfitzner ignited a run on effect of intercept ball for the Glencoe defenders, which kep the margin to six at the final break.

The Murphies contested every pass in a scrappy final term, while Maddie Redman stepped up for the Eagles, holding strongly and scoring the entirety of their 20 second-half goals.

Sarah Edwards took some timely floating intercepts in the centre third but the lockdown pressure of the Hatherleigh defence made it hard for the Murphies to convert.

The Eagles shooters had some late under-the-post shots to make the task a bit tougher for Glencoe.

Despite winning the term by two goals, time ran out for the Murphies, as the Eagles claimed a four-goal win.

Best players for Hatherleigh were Vanderhorst and Erin Watson, with Laura Edwards and Paproth best for Glencoe.
