SOUTH GAMBIER v MILLICENT

A FULL round of Western Border football has been completed and teams now find themselves up against familiar foes as the competition enters Round 6 tomorrow.

All three games could go either way but the clash between ladder leaders South Gambier and Millicent is arguably the most intriguing.

In Round 1 the Demons exacted some revenge after the 2021 grand final, as they claimed the honours at Millicent with a good win.

Since then neither team has dropped a game, with strong signs from both clubs.

The first quarter will be the key, as the Saints have struggled with slow starts in recent rounds.

Should they do the same against South, they might find themselves unable to bounce back like they did against North and East in their previous two outings.

The Demons will not make things easy and with a wealth of talent at their disposal, will contest hard in every area of the ground.

They boast some of the most talented juniors in the competition.

That includes Brock Keding, who carries dangerous form into the clash.

He has been South’s best for two consecutive weeks, while Colby Munro has also been in top shape.

However, Millicent is not without its own young guns.

Last week the side had 17 of its 22 spots filled by 21 and under players and they stood out in all aspects of the ground.

Similar to Keding, Millicent’s Josh Werchon is having a breakout season and will cause some havoc through the middle.

Kade Varcoe was also a standout and will look to back up his efforts.

The match looms as an enticing one and while South has the comfort of a home game, Millicent will be focussed on turning the tables after its opening-round loss.
