THE finalists for the 2022 Women’s Club Championships at the Mount Gambier Golf Club were determined last week.

In the A Grade semi-final, it was a repeat of last year’s final, as Kerry Pedlar and Jennifer Van Rijthoven battled it out.

It was a close contest between the pair as they finished on level terms after 18 holes, with the first hole played again to determine a winner.

Pedlar narrowly missed her putt on the 19th hole to give Van Rijthoven a spot in the upcoming final.

The second semi-final was contested between Bernie Jennings and Faye Mainwaring.

It was another strong tussle that went to the 18th hole, as Mainwaring claimed the victory.

Mainwaring and Van Rijthoven will battle it out for the title over 36 holes.

Anne Headlam and Jennette Braun contested the first B Grade semi-final.

Headlam claimed the win as Braun was unfortunate to lose her ball on the 17th hole, which dented her chances of claiming a place in the final.

The second semi-final was contested between Di O’Donnell and Helen McIntyre.

O’Donnell was in fine form on the front-nine, and was consistent through the start of the back-nine as well.

McIntyre continued to keep the pressure on O’Donnell, but it was not enough.

O’Donnell claimed a two-shot win and will take on Headlam in the final.

With players unavailable to take part in the C Grade championship, Vicki Clark earnt a spot in the final without playing a game, after she placed first in the qualifying rounds.

Heather Chapman and Jess Parsons contested the only C Grade semi-final.

Parsons was too strong for Chapman as her strong chipping game helped earn herself a place in the final against Clark.

The Women’s pennants came to a close last week when two teams from Mount Gambier Golf Club featured in the finals that were played in Naracoorte.

The Division 1 side of Anne Headlam, Bernie Jennings, Andrea Pegler, Helen McIntyre and Jennette Braun were runners-up in the final as they lost to Lucindale.

The Division 2 team of Janina Morrison, Vicki Clark, Chris Galpin, Mary Kentish and Kate McCormick went on to claim the pennant as they defeated Penola Golf Club 3-2, as Kentish claimed the win in the final game on the 18th hole.

There were 30 women that competed in a stableford competition last Wednesday.

McCormick claimed the win in Division 1 with 32 points, on a count-back from Pegler.

Sue McPherson claimed the win in Division 2 with a score of 34 points and Kentish finished in second place with 30 points.

The pro-shot winner on the eighth hole went to Di Norman, while the second shot on the first hole winners were Heather Teakle, Yvonne Shirley and Jill Johnson.

Saturday’s stableford competition had 18 players take part in damp conditions.

Clark played to her handicap to win with 36 points, as McIntyre claimed second on 34 points.

McIntyre won the pro-shot on the eighth hole.
