Goals galore in hockey

THE Lower South East Hockey Association was back in action on the weekend as the Men’s Division 1 kicked off the weekend’s proceedings.

Men’s Division 1.

Tigers 9 d Division 2 Cavaliers 1.

The game started as a tight tussle but it did not take long for the Tigers to take control of the game.

A quick pass in their attacking circle was deflected by Greg Doll which created the Tigers’ first goal of the game.

It did not take the Tigers long to open up the Cavaliers’ defence again as Patrick Robinson added his team’s second goal of the quarter.

Lochie Nisbett quickly made it 3-0 before the end of the first term.

It did not get any better for the cavaliers in the second quarter as the Tigers added three more goals as Aaron Menglar scored his first of the game, while Robinson and Doll added their second.

The Cavaliers’ defence held strong in the third quarter as they allowed just the one goal.

There were celebrations in the final quarter as Daniel Harradine broke the Cavaliers’ deadlock to get on the scoresheet.

West 4 d Division 2 Tigers 0.

Saturday’s game was contested between last year’s Division 1 premiers and last year’s Division 2 premiers.

The Tigers entered the game without their key playmaker Mick Carne but were still confident of causing an upset.

Both sides had one win and one loss from their opening two games of the season.

West got off to a strong start as Gavin Robertson scored a low-drag flick.

The Tigers had momentum on their side but were unable to break West’s defence.

West made the most of their opportunities in attack and were threatening every time they went forward.

Angus Aitken added two goals for West while Buzz Brennan also got onto the scoresheet to round out a 4-0 win.

Strikers 9 d Redbacks 1

The Strikers and Redbacks faced each other on Sunday.

The first quarter started evenly before the Strikers took a 1-0 lead thanks to Dale Tucker.

The game soon opened up in the second quarter as Jordan Millhouse found the net twice for the Strikers.

The Redbacks had no players on the bench and the full effects were felt as the Strikers made the most of their advantage.

Dean McCarthy converted a drag-flick off a short corner and Caleb Lindsay also found the back of the net.

Young goalie, Devlin Harper stepped into the goals for the Redbacks following an injury and put in an impressive performance.

Jason McKinnon scored a consolation goal for the Redbacks at the end of the game.

Division 1 Women.

Redbacks 8 d Strikers 1.

The Redbacks and Strikers took to the field on Sunday.

The first quarter as a close contest as neither side were able to break the deadlock.

Stephanie Wighton scored the first goal of the game before she added two more goals later in the contest for the Redbacks.

Lauren Manser put in a strong performance as she scored two goals and created a umber of opportunities for her teammates.

The Redbacks’ dominance continued as Zara Blackwell found the back of the net.

Isabel Di Tiommasso scored from a penalty stroke in the second quarter and claimed best on ground honours.

West 6 d Tigers 0.

The game started off as fierce contest as neither side were able to get onto the scoreboard in the first half.

However, West dominated the second half and scored four goals in the third quarter to take the game away from the Tigers.

West added another two goals in the final quarter to put the icing on the cake.

Angela broad continued her fine form as she scored three goals, while Gemma Ballintyne chipped in with two goals and Holly Bastian scored one.
