THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its second Association championship event on Thursday night.
The events were the Adrian Pearson Lawn & Garden Care/Marina and Perria Davis Men’s Pairs Championship and the Yahl Indoor Bowls Club/Henry Kerr Memorial Ladies Pairs Championship.
There were a lower number of entries than last year but the standard remained strong as new faced made the finals.
In the women’s semi finals, the Glenburnie pair of Fiona Rochow and Serena Bourn defeated the Post-Tel, Wandilo combined team of Lorraine VanDen Hoogen and Keisha Pearson 9-3.
The pair of Nola Spencer and Kathy Gray from Moorak defeated Bronwyn Hill and Emma Freemantle from the Blue Lake Bowlers in a tight contest as they won 8-7.
The final of the Yahl Indoor Bowls Club/Henry Kerr Memorial Ladies’ Pairs Championship was taken out by the Glenburnie pair of Rochow and Bourn who defeated Spencer and Gray.
The Glenburnie pair were dominant in the final as they won 10-2.
The first men’s semi finals was contested between the Wandilo Water Rats team of Peter Gregory and Tony Bowditch and the Post-Tel pair of Wayne Legutko and Zac Pearson.
The Water Rats defeated the Post-Tel pair 5-3, while in the other semi final, the Commercial Club team of Vincent Oakley and Jos Breuker defeated another Post-Tel team of Jim Pearson and Craig Pearson 6-4.
The Wandilo Water Rats pair were dominant in the grand final as they comfortably defeated the Commercial Club pair.
Gregory and Bowditch won the championship for the fourth time in succession with a seven-shot win over Oakley and Breuker.
The women’s consolation final saw the Saints team of Shirley Gifford and Jennifer Bowering defeat the combined Moorak & Wandilo pair of Johanna Gogan and Nicola Bowditch 7-2.
In the men’s consolation final, the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Robert Freemantle and Thomas Butler defeated the Saints Team of Chris Shentall and Gary Bowering 7-4.
