THE second qualifying round of the Mount Gambier Golf Club women’s championship enjoyed a course in top condition last week, with cool conditions to set the day off.

A, B and C Grade qualifying placings were finalised and off-the-stick scores were the most important in the competition.

In A Grade, current club champion Kerry Pedlar (9 handicap) headed the leading group with an impressive 83 off the stick.

Her splits were 40/43 and included nine pars for a combined score of 82-83-165.

runner-up with a combined score of 91-89-180 went to Faye Mainwaring (12), with splits of 42/47.

Mainwaring also scored a spectacular birdie on the par 3 sixth hole.

Rounding out the podium was Carol Davis (14) with a combined score of 92-91-183.

Davis bettered the difficult back nine with 44 off the stick and 47 on the front nine, which included six pars.

In the B Grade qualifying round, in-form player Janina Morrison (22) cemented first place with combined rounds of 91-100-191.

Her consistent scoring saw equal splits of 50/50.

Just one shot behind was another consistent player Helen McIntyre (19), with a combined score of 97-95-192.

Long-standing member Di O’Donnell (21) was a further shot back with a combined score of 96-97-193, with splits of 47/50.

Disappointingly there were only 3 Qualifiers for C Grade, with Vicki Clark proceeding straight into the grand final.

Heather Chapman and Jess Parsons were the other two players to qualify.

Played in conjunction with the qualifying round was a stableford event and was won by newcomer Liz Clements with 32 points.

Clements set her win up with a solid 20 points on the front nine

The nett winners to claim club vouchers were Clark with a Nett 74 on a count-back from Kerry Pedlar, also with nett 74 and McIntyre with nett 76.

In the ball run-down players needed nett 76 to nett 81 to collect a ball.

Meanwhile, a good field of 21 women played a stableford event last Saturday in perfect autumn weather, with the greens fast and the fairways running.

Warrnambool visitor, Susan Wilton (16), seemed to enjoy the course and took out the honours with 37 points, which included a birdie on the 18th hole and five pars.

At the pointy end of the field once again was Clark with a consistent game, with splits of 17/17 for her 34 points for second place.

Yvonne Shirley (25) was unlucky to finish third on a count-back from Clark with splits of 21/13 for 34 points.
