Round 3 of Mid South East netball went down to the wire at Robe, with the home side claiming a six-goal victory.

The two sides came out firing after the pre-match ceremony to commemorate Anzac Day, with much of the first quarter going goal-for-goal.

Robe took a few shots to find their feet in goals in the breezy conditions but once Tori Gluyas got her eye in, she was hard to stop.

Hatherleigh’s goalies Maddie Redman and Abby Wight struggled with their accuracy and Robe went to the quarter-time break with a three-goal lead.

No changes were made at quarter time and the arm wrestle continued, with Robe’s Annie Hunter and Tegan Telfer having a great battle through the centre.

Accuracy came to the fore, with both sides scoring 11 goals.

While Robe remained unchanged after the break, Hatherleigh made some changes, with Demi Vanderhorst coming on at goal attack and Chelsea Galpin at goal defence, while Redman and Lara MacGregor headed to the bench.

Robe took advantage of the changes and came out firing, getting lots of touches and chasing down any loose balls.

Ellen Ramke and Alannah Campbell were making it hard for Hatherleigh’s goalies, with Ramke picking off passes into the circle and making the most of any rebound opportunity.

Hatherleigh goalie Abby Wight came off during the quarter with a shoulder injury and Redman returned but the Roosters were too strong, with Sarah Laurie shooting at 100 per cent accuracy for the quarter.

The last quarter saw Hatherleigh make numerous changes, with Robe once again making no changes.

Redman was on fire for the visitors, shooting 13 of their 17 goals for the quarter and only missing one goal.

The Roosters seemed to take their foot off the pedal and Hatherleigh came home strong and threatened to take the lead but in the last five minutes Robe lifted and kept Hatherleigh at bay to record a well-deserved victory.

Robe’s Annie Hunter was named best on court and was awarded the Anzac Medal.

Best players for Robe were Hunter and Ramke, while Erin Watson and Tegan Telfer for named best for Hatherleigh.
