BLUE Lake Archers president Ian Harris stood tall at the Australian Masters Games in Perth over the Anzac weekend.
Harris competed in the 70-79 age group using a compound bow for all events he entered.
Day one was the long target round and 790 points from a possible 900 secured the bronze medal for Harris, with the gold medal winning score 849 points.
With 620 points from a possible 720 for the short target round on day two resulted in another bronze medal to make it two medals from two events, with 658 points securing the gold medal.
The long distance Clout round was the day three event and a last-minute practice and equipment set-up at the local club was organised by Paul Freeman before Harris journeyed westward to Perth.
It paid dividends, with Harris claiming the silver medal.
At the time of writing the final archery event of the Masters games, the Field event, was still to be run and results will be included next week.
At the local level the BLA club membership increased by one, with a new member completing his transfer from a Western Australian club.
Jeff Puckridge has made the transition to Blue Lake Archers competition and has slotted straight into the club’s handicap scored rounds.
Friday night the indoor venue hosted the twin round of Australian Indoor 18-metre format.
First-up winner was Tamika Mullan who returned to the shooting line after a short break.
Mullan won the round by a single point from Puckridge in the adjusted scores.
The second round was a complete shake up of the finishing order as Peter Donhardt pushed his way into the top spot, edging out Ben Kilsby by a solitary point.
Sunday afternoon the quick and simple BLA 50/720 round made its second appearance on the club score sheets.
Kilsby finally translated his impeccable off-the-bow scores into an adjusted-score win.
Having claimed the bragging rights to the best off-the-bow score for all three events over the weekend, Kilsby’s adjusted score was five points better than Donhardt’s final tally for the 72-arrow event.
Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park on Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park at 12.30pm Sunday.
