Nangwarry v Glencoe

Nangwarry started its 2022 Mid South East football season with a bit of a bang, taking the game right up to Tantanoola to almost pull of its first win for many years.

The Tigers prevailed but certainly not without a scare.

This week the Saints will host Glencoe in their first home game of the season, with the new clubrooms ready to go in what will be a big day.

That will provide a real spark for the home side but Glencoe will take little notice.

The Murphies come of a solid victory over Mount Burr last round and will take plenty from the win.

They were pushed for three quarters and now know they can hold on and swing the momentum in their own favour, should they again need to do so.

The Saints will of course want to celebrate the opening of their clubrooms with a bit of style and will certainly throw everything at the contest.

In the opening round, forward Andrew Hyland banged on eight goals for the Saints but was kept quiet last round against Hatherleigh, with just the one major.

The Murphies will certainly need to curb his influence and if he finds any space, he could make them pay.

In last round’s win over Mount Burr, Glencoe’s Alex Hentschke stood up and kicked four majors but was joined by the class of Dylan Childs, Patrick Mitchell and Henry Smith, all with two goals.

It is certainly a formidable challenge for the Saints and possibly a bit too much to overcome.

While it would be nice to see Nangwarry notch up a victory, not just to break the drought but to also open the clubrooms in style on Saturday night, the Murphies will be too strong and claim the points.
