THE semi-finals of the Belgiorno’s handicap championships were completed last Wednesday at the Blue Lake Golf Club in warm, mild conditions.

With all the top qualifiers in Division 1 having been eliminated the previous week, it will come down to using those extra handicap strokes to get name on the trophy in the final.

In Division 1 the first semi-final between Sue Agars and Lee-Anne Medhurst with only one extra stroke given, the match proved too much for Medhurst once Agars got on a roll 2-up after nine and was able to maintain the momentum especially having a chip-in birdie-three on the par 4 12th hole and Agars clinching the win 5/4.

The second semi-final proved a tough one between Bev Pascoe and Dianne Perryman with a massive 10 strokes relinquished to Pascoe, the 2021 champion.

Pascoe us known for her straight hitting and consistency with the flat stick so it was always going to be a challenge for Perryman.

Pascoe made sure she used those extra strokes and was 4-up on the turn, eventually winning 5/3.

The first semi-final in Division 2 between Jaynee Oberer and Rose Case was a similar story, with Case receiving an extra nine strokes and was 1-up after nine.

The game then see-sawed till Oberer fought back and it was all square on the 18th hole, he win going Case’s way on the 19th 1-up.

The second semi-final saw newcomer to golf finals, Kate Hommelhoff, with a 33 handicap, pitted against Joanna Gogan with 30.

Hommelhoff has shown a will to win and lower her handicap over the last few months and this was a hurdle she wanted to get over.

She was 3-up after the first nine.

However, Gogan was not done and put wins on the card on the 10th and 12th holes, dragging the score back to 1-down.

Hommelhoff was able hang on adding wins on the 13th and 16th holes to claim the win 3/2.

Results of the final will be published in The Border Watch next week.

Division 1 – B. Pascoe v S. Agars; Division 2 – R. Case v K. Hommelhoff.
