Teenager claims maiden victory

MOUNT Gambier Golf Club attracted 101 golfers on Saturday for a stableford competition where Flynn Davison claimed his first win.

The 16-year-old put in a strong performance to finish the day with 43 points.

Davison started the day strongly as he notched up 22 points on the front-nine and followed it up with 21 points on the back-nine to finish two points clear of Ryan Hosking in second-place.

In just his 10th competitive round, Davison put in one of his best chipping performances which provided the platform for his win.

His day got off to the perfect start when he picked up four points off the first hole thanks to a chip-and-putt par.

By the end of the sixth hole, Davison had already scored 17 points thanks to four three-point-holes.

He claimed his second par of the day on the eighth hole after he made it to the green off the tee.

Davison continued that form into the back-nine before claiming the overall and C Grade win for the day.

A Grade was won by Hosking, who finished with 41 points after shooting an impressive one-over-par 73.

Runner-up in A Grade went to Michael Cutting who finished with 38 points.

Jack Jennings claimed the win in B Grade with 40 points, one ahead of Jon Clayton in second.

Jennings picked 24 points on the front-nine which was highlighted by a birdie on the fourth hole.

He also backed up the birdie with pars on the second, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth holes.

The shot of the day went to Darren Bliney who sunk his second shot on the par 4 17th hole for an eagle.

The Thursday stableford competition was won by Barry Brook who claimed a one-point-win over Peter Buckingham.

Brook ended the round with 40 points which was highlighted by a birdie on the seventh hole.

Buckingham put in a strong performance to finish with 39 points and claim second-place ahead of Gary Wilson in third on 38 points.

Wilson had the best round of the day, shooting a one-over-par 73 off his handicap of three.
