WHILE sport in the Limestone Coast is somewhat quiet this weekend, McNamara Park will roar into life for the annual Easter Cup meeting.

The event is shaping up to be a big meeting, with around 120 riders nominated across the various classes.

The weekend is also the first round of the South Australian road race championships and includes a round of the BEARS series, for British, European and American motorcycles.

The state series has attracted plenty of riders keen to claim the coveted title, while the BEARS series includes riders from across Victoria and New South Wales, which all adds to the spectacle of the weekend.

For the state series, competitors have four heats to amass points towards the title, ensuring plenty of competitive racing.

The big attraction is the Easter Cup itself, with several different categories competing for their own crown, while a consolation feature provides those who did not make the big race a chance to take something from the weekend.

Grid positions for the big race – for 600cc machines and above – go on lap times across the weekend.

Other feature races include juniors and smaller capacity bikes.

Practice is set down for today (Friday), with qualifying Saturday morning and racing from lunch time onwards.

Racing continues on Sunday, with the main feature events to run in the afternoon.

With borders opened and Covid-19 restrictions easing, the Easter Cup meeting has attracted big fields, with around 20 Superbikes nominated for some fast and furious action.

Highlights include Furner racer Dallas Skeer, who returns to McNamara Park from the Australian Superbike Series where he competes in the 600cc Supersport category.

Declan Carbery will head down from Adelaide, while Jamie Banks is another rider on the pace this season.

Skeer hopes to break his current lap record around McNamara Park, which should provide some extra entertainment for those who follow the young racer.

Canteen and bar facilities are available, with entry $10 for each day, while Under 16s are free.
