O’Donnell claims stableford win

MOUNT Gambier Golf Club hosted 37 women on Wednesday in the first round of the Hudson Plumbing Stableford Competition.

Di O’Donnell finished the first round with the best score of the day with 35 points and claimed the win in Division 1.

Her game was highlighted by a birdie on the par 3 sixth hole and pars on the first hole, the fourth and the seventh.

Janina Morrison claimed second place in Division 1 with 19 points on the front nine, and 16 on the back.

Lorraine Bruhn won the round for Division 2 with 34 points.

Bruhn picked up 20 points on the back nine and claimed the win over Helen Heaver by count-back.

The pro shot on the eighth hole went to Bernie Jennings.

The specialty prize on the second shot of the 16th hole was won by Leanne Hunt in A Grade, Morrison in B Grade and Rosalie Hunt in C Grade.

A stableford competition was held on April 9 which attracted 16 golfers.

The difficult course set-up had little impact on Helen McIntyre who finished the day with 39 points.

McIntyre had an impressive day that included five pars on the front nine and 21 points on the back nine.

Second-placed Faye Mainwaring ended the day with 36 points which included seven pars throughout the day.

Helen Gregory finished a close-third with 35 points which included a birdie on 16th hole.
