BLUE Lake Soccer Club women had the perfect start to their Steeline Limestone Coast Football Association (LCFA) season when they claimed the honours at Sunday’s pre-season carnival.

The Rangers matched up against the other five LCFA clubs for a full day of action at Malseed Park, prior to the premiership cup launch in two week’s time.

They demonstrated solid form in what appears will be a strong women’s competition this year, with four wins and a draw against runner-up Centrals to earn the pre-season bragging rights.

In a good show Blue Lake converted 15 goals for the day, while conceding only one in a tight 2-1 win against Inter.

“It was a fantastic way to kick our season off,” Blue Lake women’s coach Tanya Frost said.

Frost is excited for what the coming season holds for her team, with a good mix of youth and experience in the roster.

She said the weekend’s results were the perfect reward for the hard work put in on the training track.

“We had a focus for the day of really just playing the structure of what we had been working on,” Frost said.

“Within that structure we had team roles and individual roles.

“I was pretty happy that we pulled it off.”

To make the victory all the more sweet, the Rangers were able to claim the tournament honours on home soil.

The women’s carnival was moved from its original venue alongside the men at Casadio Park due to the second pitch not being ready, which resulted in Blue Lake Soccer Club stepping up to help out.

“I was really proud of our club and how the pitch came up,” Frost said.

“Everyone worked really hard to make it happen and it was a really special day.”

From the LCFA’s point of view, the day could not have been more of a success, with a good turnout of spectators throughout the day, while all proceeds from the venue were donated towards the Breast Cancer Foundation.

“It was really good to all be there on the one day and it was all played in good spirits,” Frost said.

“Looking ahead it seems a really even competition in the women this year.

“It is really exciting for the competition.”

Frost looks forward to the home-and-away season kick-off next weekend with the senior team in good stead for a successful season.

She said while the senior team has shaped up well, the club remains on the lookout for some junior players, with positions available in the Under 16 and Under 13 sides.

“Anyone who wants to come out on a Wednesday night at Malseed Park at 5pm they are more than welcome,” Frost said.
