A STROKE competition for the women was played at the Blue Lake Golf Club on Wednesday, which and also included the second round of the Belgiorno’s Handicap Championships for 2022.

A field of 33 players were keen to post good scores to be eligible in the final eight in both division’s and with only one more qualifying round to go, the best two of three rounds will be the deciding factor.

Division 1 winner, Ronda Edwards has set the challenge to the rest of the field.

After returning from a hiatus of close to a decade, Edwards has since been a regular in the winner’s circle and has managed to reduce her handicap from the high 20s, to 14, in her time back on the course.

In what was a convincing win, Edwards picked up nine pars to end the day with a score of 68 nett.

Second spot went to Trudy Herbert, with a score of 96/26/70, including a par on the 11th hole.

Returning to golf after a couple of months, Jenny Medhurst claimed third place with a final score of 91/20/71, which included six pars and forced a count-back from Dianne Perryman, also with nett 71.

Lyn Annand picked up another win in Division 2 to back up her win from last week with a score of 106/31/75.

The round came to a dramatic conclusion as Annand, Lyn Gill and Dianne Allen all finished with 75 nett.

Annand claimed the victory after a three-way countback, while the pro-shot on the fifth hole went to Ronda Edwards.

Meanwhile the chip-in ferret prizes went to Kate Hommelhoff on the fourth hole, Gael Ford on the ninth and Trudy Herbert on the 11th.

Cherryl Hill had a birdie-three on the 12th hole.

A smaller-than-usual field of women played stroke on Saturday and had to contend with the long course setup due to the men’s monthly medal being played.

Helen Stratford claimed the win, starting on the back nine and quickly established a reasonable score, playing one under her handicap and included a par on the 17th hole.

Crossing over to the front and a par on the first looked promising, however triple bogies on the 3rd and 7th spoiled a good card.

Stratford ended the round with a par on the ninth hole and finished well with 90/20/70.

Second-placed Dianne Perryman also played to her strengths, with pars on the fifth, 11th and 12th holes but also had triple-bogies on the second, sixth and 13th to finish with 90/18/72.

Fiona Punton finished in third place with 96/23/73, with pars on the eighth, 14th, 16th and 17th holes.
