AFTER a big season of softball, Concordes United claimed the premiership honours over sister club Concordes White in a tight 2-1 result on Saturday at Blue Lake Sports Park.

United opened a 2-0 lead early in the game, with White playing catch-up from there on.

However, United was unable to create a winning margin, with White finally scoring a run to close the game up.

Late in the contest the score sat at 2-1, with White looking to close the margin, but United had other ideas and held on for a well-deserved victory.

Dana Jones was voted MVP for the final after a stellar season of softball, which spilled over to the season decider.

With both Concordes teams fighting for the premiership honours, it was a matter of which side could claim the bragging rights and victorious coach Hannah Taylor simply said she was ecstatic with the outcome.

But she also noted the friendly rivalry which exists between the two sides.

“The good thing about Concordes is we are just one big family and we all love each each, win or lose,” Taylor said.

“It was a great game.”

The result went down to the wire and Taylor was a bit overwhelmed at the end of the game.

“I came down to the very last play,” she said.

“I don’t know where we pulled it from, but we did.

“We always try to play our game, always try to have fun no matter the outcome.

“It was good to come out on top.”

As for Jones’s MVP award, Taylor put it simply.

“Dana always plays amazing,” she said.

“She has had a fantastic season and she deserved the award.”

While Concordes clearly has good numbers at the club to field two competitive sides, it was not always the case and even in the grand final, United has the bare nine players.

The result came from simple hard work and perseverance.

“We have worked pretty hard for this,” Taylor said.

“We lost some people and gained some people this season.

“Last season we didn’t even make the finals because we were struggling for players.

“It was a good turnaround to have more players and get the win.

“It was so good.”
