COOL conditions greeted the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club for the re-scheduled second round of the Sorrentos Summer Trophy.

The par format is one of the least liked by most golfers but for some, occasionally a great score comes along.

Playing off 20 in Division 1, women’s captain Helen Myers was testament to one of those day’s where you can not do anything wrong.

Her playing partners were treated to a show of how it is done with pars on the first, second, fourth and fifth holes to turn with +4.

She followed up with pars on the 10th and 14th holes, plus two scrubs to finish well ahead of vice captain Geraldine Scott.

Playing off 21, Scott scored a pleasing +2 after opening with a scrub on the first hole and a par on the seventh to turn square.

She followed up with pars on the 14th and 16th holes, with only one scrub.

Scott had handicapper Dianne Perryman hot on her heels, marking six plusses on her scorecard but unfortunately had four scrubs to finish +2, ensuring a count-back which went in Scott’s favour.

Dianne Allen – off 42 in Division 2 – also had a +4 that included five wins, three halved holes and a scrub on the outward nine.

She then had a win on the 10th and 16th holes, a par on the 11th and three scrubs on the inward nine.

Allen was the winner of the Summer Trophy in 2021 and would hope for a repeat in 2022.

Runner-up Lyn Annand and Johanna Gogan, both off 32, each had three scrubs on the outward nine.

Annand had plusses on the 10th, 13th, 16th and 18th holes to finish +1.

Gogan was 2-down on the turn then rallied with four wins, including a par on the 14th hole to finish +1 and create a count-back, which went Annand’s way.

Nearest to the pin second shot winner’s were Scott in Division 1 and Gogan in Division 2.

The pro shot on the par 3 fifth hole was won by Gael Ford.

Novelty prizes for ferrets went to Scott on the seventh hole and Bev Pascoe on the 16th.

Accurate fairway drives were won by Lesley McPherson (14) and Helen Myers (15).
