Solid effort in Open Pennant

THERE were mixed results in the Lower South East Open bowls Pennants for the Port MacDonnell Bowls Club on the weekend, with Division 1 making themost of the day for a win.

The Divison 1 side (78 shots 10 points) defeated Millicent 69-2 at Millicent.

Paul Weir, Robert Hutchesson, Wayne Dowdell and skip Tim Wrightson lost to Wayne Ross 20-38 but Barrie Schmidt, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and skip Bill Richards won 32-17 against the Bryan Roper side.

Greg Fisher, Carol Schmidt, Judith Grosvenor and skip Chris Richards also claimed a win, 26-14 over the John Scudds team.

The win lifted the Bay side off the bottom of the ladder for the first time for the year.

In Division 3 Port MacDonnell 66-10 defeated Narracoorte 64-2.

Jimmy Williams, John Naismith, Donald Forbes and skip Kel Butler defeated the Roger Farley team 27-22, while Michael Glynn, Lance Fisher, Jennie Tilley and skip Terry Seiler defeated Don Mitton’s side 17-26.

Chris Negline, Victor Perryman, Kevin Osman and skip Danny Gaut lost to the Bev King side 25-13.

While the Bay struggled against the bottom-placed side, Kel Butler and Terry Seiler had enough to cover the loss by Danny Gaut.

In Division 4 Port MacDonnell was no match for the Mount Gambier RSL, going down by 31 shots.

Port MacDonnell 58-0 lost to Mount Gambier RSL 91-12 at Mount Gambier RSL.

Terry Stone, Lyn Vanderley, Marilyn Sutton and skip Bill McGregor lost to Lyn Chirgwin 42-13, Ben Tilley, Graham Hutchesson, Kevin Norman and skip Rod Sutton lost to Bob Solley 24-21, while Darryl Sims, Bruce Bain, Cheryl Doddridge and skip Robyn Burley lost to Lindsay Moyal 25-24.

Congratulations go to Heather Richards on winning the singles Champion of Champions at Penola on Sunday, a great result for the Port MacDonnell club.

Richards defeated Lucindale’s Cheryl Ferguson, Mount Gambier’s Christie Errock, then Beachport’s Jill Preston in the final to claim the honours for season 2022.
