Millicent pairs hold Championship

MEN'S PAIRS RUNNERS-UP: Wayne Ross and Brian Roper.

THE Millicent Bowls Club Championship Pairs competition started in warmer than average conditions on January 22.

Three games leading up to the finals were played on the day, with four teams left in the Women’s and the Men’s to be played at a later date.

The Women’s Semi finals and Grand Final were played last Sunday.

Lyn Scudds and Ros Varcoe played Faye Hill and Merle Stevens with the Scudds-Varcoe team moving on to the Grand Final.

In the second game, the teams of Sarah and Adriana Ross played Carlene Godden and Judy Lowe with the Ross pair moving into the Grand Final.

In the Grand Final, which was played over 18 ends, the Ross combination by the sixth end were up 8 shots to the Scudds-Varcoe team with 3 shots.

By the 13th end the Ross team were up by 13-5 and by the final end the Ross team won the game with the score finishing 18-11, giving the title of Pairs Champions for season 2021/22 to the Ross team.

The Men’s Semi Final played on the same day was contested between Peter Scanlon and John Buhlmann against David Nuske and Jim Campbell with Scanlon and Buhlmann progressing to the Grand Final.

The second semi-final was between Wayne Ross and Bryan Roper taking on Steve Carnellor and Kym Stewart, in which Ross and Roper managed to steal the win from Carnellor and Stewart to move into the final.

Like the Women’s, the Men’s Grand Final was played over 18 ends.

Scores were tied at six shots each by the 10th end and by the 16th end, the Scanlon and Buhlmann combination were only one shot up.

The Scanlon and Buhlmann team proceeded to win the next two ends winning the game 14-11, which gave Scanlon and Buhlmann the title of Men’s Championship Pairs for 2021/22.
