Supershoot kicks off

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its annual two-day Supershoot on January 8-9.

Saturday saw nominations for squads take place, after which the competition began at 10am.

A total of 101 competitors travelled from Victoria, Northern Territory and all over South Australia to compete in six events held across the weekend, playing for $20,000 in prizes.

High Gun prizes over the events were awarded to Overall, Grades, Veteran, Women’s and Juniors.

The first event was the Pick Avenue Deli and Bakery 25 Target Pointscore with some shooters obtaining perfect scores regardless of the rain.

AA Grade saw Wayne Hawker claim first place with a perfect score of 96/96, while Don Pratt came in one point behind as runner-up.

Max Medhurst, Gavin Height and Kane Hawker placed in third, fourth and fifth place respectively, with scores of 90/93, 75/78 and 83/84.

A Grade had Jeffrey Hogg claim first place with a near perfect score of 74/75, while Geoffrey Palmer and Sam Rundell claimed second and third with scores of 73/75 and 72/75.

Fourth place was Scott Fleming (85/93) and fifth was Max Pontifex (84/93).

In B Grade, Jordyn Brown claimed first place with a score of 79/84, while second went to Leigh Dunn (76/84) and third to Grant Stevenson (69/75).

Fourth place was John Owen (68/75) and fifth was John McIntyre (66/75).

In C Grade, Rolf Bugden took first place (69/75), second was Kevin Dawe (66/75) and third was Ben Kentish (64/75).

Fourth place went to Peter Klieve (71/87) and fifth to Aaron Pretlove (68/87).

Up next in the second event was the Mount Gambier Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) 25 Target Single Barrel.

In AA Grade, Gavin Height took first place (28/29), second to Jesse Murrel (27/29) and third to Warren Lindner (31/32).

Fourth place went to Stewart Forbes (29/30) and fifth went to Allan Pollock (37/40).

In A Grade, Scott Fleming took first place (24/25), second went to Anna Evgeniou (24/26) and third was Jeffrey Hogg with (23/26).

Fourth place went to Mark Newcombe (36/39) and fifth went to Sam Rundell (35/39).

In B Grade, Jordyn Brown took first place (24/25), second went to Hayden Megaw (24/28) and third was Stephen Holt (23/28).

Fourth place went to Grant Stevenson with (22/27) and fifth went to Gezenius Blok (21/26).

In C Grade, Robert Marcato took first place with (22/25), second went to Rolf Bugden (21/25) and third was Reece Fleming with (19/25).

Fourth place went to Ben Kentish (18/25) who just edged out fifth place Kevin Dawe (17/25).

The third event was the South West Freight 25 Target Double Barrel, with 23 competitors shooting perfect scores.

In AA Grade, first place was taken out by Wayne Hawker (114/114), second was Greg Kessegian (113/114) and third was Andrew Estcourt (73/74)

Fourth place was Max Medhurst (64/65) and fifth was Martin Collumb (62/63).

In A Grade, Tristan McKinnon took first place (29/29), second was Harry Brown (28/29) and third was Mark Newcombe (33/34).

Fourth was Nicholas Siepolt (32/34) and fifth was Dennis Ryan (28/30).

In B Grade, Darren Murrell took first place (25/25), second was Grant Stevenson (31/33) and third was Joydyn Brown (30/33).

Fourth place was Frank Kentish (28/31) and fifth was Hayden Megaw (24/27).

In C Grade, Peter Klieve took first place (24/25), second was Rolf Bugden (24/27) and third was Ben Kentish (23/27).

Fourth place was Aaron Pretlove (23/27) and fifth was Bernadette Peters (22/27).

The George Yoannidis Club Team Competition was held over the three events on Saturday with team entries limited to one competitor from all grades with an addition from Veterans, Women’s or Juniors of the same Club.

The Mount Gambier team of Gavin Height from AA Grade, Kevin Mules from A Grade, Stuart Bowd from B Grade, Peter Klieve from C Grade and Veteran Steve Chambers won the $500 in prize money, sponsored by Guy Yoannidis.

A Junior High Gun prize for the day was donated by Scott Fleming with Kane Hawker taking the top spot.

Sunday dawned bright and sunny as the competition started up at 9.30am when all were ready to fire off.

The fourth event was the Zema Estate 25 Target Single Barrel with personally selected Zema Estate wines on offer.

The overall winner was Ashley Bolwell after a perfect score of 43/43.

In AA Grade, Warren Lindner took first place (42/43), second was Don Pratt (40/41) and third was Wayne Hawker (39/41).

Fourth place was Dougal Simson (37/39) and fifth was Graham Menhennet (33/35).

In A Grade, Trevor Pevitt took first place (32/33), second was Bob Chamberlain (31/33) and third was Harry Brown (26/28).

Fourth was Mathew Cocks (25/28) and fifth was Sam Rundell (23/26).

In B Grade, Hayden Megaw took first place (26/28), second was Alexander Souter (25/28) and third was Stephen Holt (30/35).

Fourth place was Leigh Dunn (29/35) and fifth was Dale Robertson (26/30).

In C Grade, Bernadette Peters took first place (23/25), second was Peter Klieve (22/27) and third was Aaron Pretlove (21/27).

Fourth place was Ben Kentish (21/28) and fifth was Robert Marcato (20/28).

The fifth event was the Winchester 25 Target Pointscore with a Winchester Prize Package Kit and Winchester cartridges up for grabs with a few shooters attaining perfect scores.

In AA Grade, Ash Hawker took first place (87/87), second was Wayne Hawker (86/87) and third was Wayne Jenkins (75/78).

Fourth place was Chris Brown (101/102) and fifth was Martin Collumb (100/102).

In A Grade, Harry Brown took first place (74/75), second was Dallas Fisher (73/75) and third was Anna Evgeniou (70/75).

Fourth place was Kevin Mules (84/90) and fifth was Tristan McKinnon (83/90).

In B Grade, John McIntyre took first place (72/75), second was Stephen Holt (71/75) and third was Doug Rohde (70/75).

Fourth place was Kaylene Estcourt (69/75) and fifth was Darren Murrell (82/90).

In C Grade, Peter Klieve took first place (62/75), second was Ben Kentish (63/78) and third was Robert Marcato (60/78).

Fourth place was Aaron Pretlove (59/81) and fifth was Reece Fleming (57/81).

The final event was the Trident Tyre Centre 25 Target Continental with a broad selection of prizes on offer, fiercely contested by 10 perfect scores.

In AA Grade, Ash Hawker took out first place with an impressive score of 200/200, just eliminating second place Chris Brown (199/200), while third place went to Wayne Hawker (99/100).

Fourth place was Willis Jenkins (91/92) and fifth was Max Medhurst (70/71).

In A Grade, Kevin Mules took first place (38/39), second was Tristan McKinnon (37/39) and third was Peter Winser (29/31).

Fourth place was Harry Brown (27/29) and fifth was Max Pontifex (25/27).

In B Grade, Stuart Bowd took first place (25/25), second was Jordyn Brown (33/34) and third was Mick Rudd (32/34).

Fourth place was John McIntyre (40/42) and fifth was Dale Robertson (39/42).

In C Grade, Peter Klieve took first place (23/25), second was Rolf Bugden (23/27) and third was Reece Fleming 22/27.

Fourth place was Robert Marcato (24/30) and fifth was Ben Kentish (23/30).

The overall two day High Gun winner was claimed by Wayne Hawker (247/250).

In AA Grade, Don Pratt claimed the top spot (244/250), A Grade went to Harry Brown (235/250), B Grade went to Jordan Brown (226/250) and C Grade went to Ben Kentish (203/250).

The Veterans High Gun saw Max Medhurst claim the title (242/250), while the Women’s went to Anna Evgeniou (213/250) and Juniors to Kane Hawker (234/250).

A total of 65 shooters won in the $20,000 prize pool.
