AT Malseed Park West Gambier made short work of the South Gambier batting lineup in Round 8 of Barber Shield cricket.

The Roos ripped through the Demons’ lineup for just 93 runs and claimed first-innings points to boot, with a total of 5/94 at stumps.

Daniel Loupos almost reached a half-century milestone for the Demons but fell short on 45, caught off the bowling of Justin DeJong.

By that stage South had managed to put on just 59 runs, with Ryan Kuhl and Jakob Opie both out for just one run.

Youngster Jed Sims held up an end for a while, compiling 13 off 41 deliveries but Michael and Ethan Sims could only contribute four runs each.

Stephen Easterbrook contributed a quick-fire 20 0ff 21 deliveries but there was nothing more to speak of, as the Demons were cut down for just short of a century in the 42nd over.

Jake Blackwell did much of the damage, with figures of 4/21.

with the bat, West was off to a poor start, with DeJong and Alex Hill both out for ducks with the total at just three.

Jack Geddes and Blackwell put together a handy 43-run stand to right the ship, before the former was on his way for 15.

Sam Willis joined Blackwell in the middle and runs continued.

Unfortunately both departed with the total at 89 and South still had a remote change to claim first innings points.

That was not to be, with the total reached before stumps after 35 overs were faced.

It leaves West in with a good chance of an outright victory this weekend.
