Pairs titles completed

DESPITE player unavailability and subsequent team changes, the Robe Men’s and Ladies Championship Pairs were completed on the weekend.

The women played their first round during the week, with Nesla Boundy and Valma Jennings defeating Robbie Dahler and Jan Fisk in a close game.

Maria Cooper and Tracey Gray claimed a big win against Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham, while Nola Peel and Jo Sykes played their first round on Saturday against Lorraine Dening and Barb Brown and came out on top.

In the second round Boundy and Jennings defeated Judy Phillips and Ann Moore, while Peel and Sykes defeated Maria Cooper and Tracey Gray.

The final was played between the Jennings’ and Sykes’ teams.

After nine ends the score was nine shots each, then Boundy and Jennings remained on nine until the 12th end, then won five shots to hold a three-shot lead.

From there they won the 14th and 15th ends to come away with a 16-12 victory and the title.

In the men’s first round Ali Douglas and Harold Manton defeated Ken Smith and Pat Lynch, Peter Roachock and Vic Dawson defeated Ross Dening and Jim Gray, while Dean Woodward and Paul Truelove defeated Mark Murphy and Craig Dean.

The second round saw Rob Hooper and Dean Burgoyne defeat Bill Cook and Josh Waddell, Peter Delaine and Rob Lawrie defeated Douglas and Manton, Errol Jennings and David Robinson def Peter Roachock and Vic Dawson, while Gordon Brown and Glenn Wright defeated Woodward and Truelove.

In the semi final Hooper and Burgoyne defeated Truelove and Lawrie, while Brown and Wright defeated Jennings and Robinson.

The final between the Brown/ Wright and Hooper/ Burgoyne combinations was a close encounter which went down to the wire, with the Brown/Wright combination claiming the title by one shot – 12-11.

Meanwhile social bowls last week were sponsored by Sky Seafoods, with 18 players completing two lots of 12 ends of triples with two two-game winners.

Robbie Dahler, Paul Truelove and Rob Lawrie claimed the honours on 58 points, ahead of Leanne Cameron, Ann Moore and Errol Jennings on 54.
