ROD Gibbs, Neil Whelan, Peter Hyland and Glen Jones held off a mid-to-late-game push to claim the Millicent Bowls Club Men’s Championship Fours on the weekend.
The four faced a tough challenge from Ashley Madden, Robert Radley, Terry Lonergan and Brian Goode, as was evident with scores equal after five ends.
The Gibbs’ team then went on to win the next six ends for a 14-4 lead and looked to have the title in hand.
However, the Madden team began to find a groove and close the margin, trailing by just seven shots – 19-12 – after 17 ends.
With the competition run over 18 ends, time was running out and despite closing the margin further, the Madden team could close the gap and succumbed to the Gibbs’ four 19-16, with the victors worthy of the title.
