Singles rock the bowls field

FIRST WIN: Paul Weir celebrates after his first club singles championship victory.

PORT MacDonnell held its Men’s and Women’s Singles with stunning weather for bowls.

The Men’s competition was sponsored by Tonkins Car audio with 11 nominations.

Paul Weir defeated Keith Dowdell and Terry Seiler to make it through to the final.

Tim Wrightson defeated Chris Richards and Robert Hutchesson, opening up to play Weir in the final.

Wrightson got away with 11 shots to 4 after nine ends while Weir closed in and won nine of the next 10 ends to lead 21-13.

With a handy break, Weir closed it out with another 4 shots to win the championship after 23 ends 25-15, marking Weir’s first club singles victory.

The Women’s Singles, sponsored by Forty Winks, had 10 nominations.

Sharon Perryman defeated Marilyn Sutton and Lorraine Mackereth to make it through to the final.

Heather Richards defeated Carol Schmidt and Lyn Vanderley to meet Perryman in a battle for the final.

In a very close contest after eight ends, Richards led 8-5, while after 13 ends Perryman had caught up and levelled the score at 12-12.

Richards picked up 14 shots to Perryman’s 4 to win 26-17 after 25 ends.
