Bygone era returns

MEMORIES: Historic machinery will grace the McNamara Park circuit this weekend for the SA Historic titles.

OLD, beloved machinery will grace the McNamara Park racing circuit this weekend, with the SA Historic Road racing Championships set down for a big weekend of competition.

The roar of old Indians, Harley Davidsons and everything in between will have memories pouring back as spectators witness machinery of yesteryear face off.

The meeting promises to provide plenty of entertainment, with more than 115 riders registered and close to 200 bikes to be used.

While Covid-19 still has the propensity to throw a curve ball, the club is confident of a quality meeting, which has attracted riders from both sides of the border.

Riders will be chasing lap records after last year saw some categories with new records set.

The pre-1945 category boast a strong field of 12 bikes broken into Period 2, Handshifters and Class C.

If old WL Harleys and Indians are your thing you will not be disappointed, with big grids expected all weekend.

Likewise, the roar at the start of a single cylinder race is something to behold.

A big field of singles is set to take on the Bob Jolly Memorial race and will be one to experience.

Pucka bikes like Manx Nortons and G50 Matchless will battle it out for honours.

The Ken Blake Memorial Race has been moved to now include Period 5 machines and will have a full grid.

Saturday January 1 includes qualifying rounds which begin at 9am, with racing to follow after the 18 qualifiers around the middle of the day.

Sunday’s racing starts at 9am.

With the 18 qualifying sessions and 40 races there will be non-stop action over the two days

Internet service is still quite hit-and-miss at McNamara Park so patience is required and do not expect live timing.
