EARNING the title of ‘hard charger’ at the Borderline Speedway on Tuesday night was Limestone Coast racing legend Steven Lines who came back after two seasons off.

Lines came from 17th to 5th in the Sprint Car A Main race, working his way through the field this season with spectators, fellow drivers and club members expecting the success to continue into the season.

About 1500 spectators attended the races last Tuesday night.

They were treated to thrills and spills throughout the night including one major crash between two cars in the Sprint Cars final which caused a red light stoppage with cars craned off the track.

The race continued and finished with local favourite James McFadden taking the top spot.

McFadden finished ahead of Carson Macedo and Luke Dillon.

The Super Sedan Feature showcased the talent of Jamie Collins who took out the top spot over Dave McKenzie and Paul Blenkiron.

Michael Miller overtook Scott Webb and Anthony Grillett in the Modlite Feature.

Anthony Beare took out the top spot in the Street Stock Feature followed by Jason Duell and Steve Gartner.

Speedway Club president Cary Jennings said the club had lost a number of Super Sedans due to their location and the inability to receive a Covid-19 test in the required 72 hours prior to arriving.

“They were a depleted field but we still ran and had a good final,” Jennings said.

“We had around 14 Street Stocks with Anthony Beare, Jason Duell and Steve Gartner on the podium in the final and they seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Originally there were 40 sprint cars nominated for the night but this ended up with only 23 due to Covid testing requirements.

Jennings said it was disappointing so many were not able to get test results back in time for the race, but with recent changes to the interstate travel testing requirements he hoped it would make it easier for others to come across.

“The next event is a major event for us and we will encourage people from interstate to attend,” he said.

“It will be the State Title for speed cars but we also have the Summer Slam which is a race between Mount Gambier, Simpson and Warrnambool coming up which we are hoping to have around 90 cars in the pits for.

“We are hoping that Covid won’t affect us anymore and we can get these shows up and running because we have a good car count as well as patrons on the hill.”

The State Title will be held on January 7 with the annual Kings Challenge held on January 20.
