PREPARATIONS for the annual Blue Lake Archers invitational tournament have begun, set down for January 15, 2022.

The traditional addition of an indoor event the night before and a clout round on the following day will round out a full weekend for visiting archers.

Nominations via the electronic platform of Archers Diary are now open.

Meanwhile, local archery events over last weekend covered a double indoor round and a short outdoor round.

On Friday night a double run of Australian 18-metre events was on offer to the archers that included a rapidly-improving prospective member of the club.

Ian Harris pressed his outdoor bow into service for the indoor.

While the bow was not set up for the indoor events he persisted to record respectable scores with 261 the first round and 253 in the second.

The finishing order for both rounds were identical, the difference between the rounds limited to the winning margins.

Paul Freeman trailed home the double winner Graham Lock with 289 and 286, the margin for round one was seven points with lock at 296.

Lock opened up the margin in the second round to 14 points with a score of 300.

On Sunday the club members were happy to run a quick event for the afternoon, a tongue-in-cheek quick renaming of the 60-arrow Soggy Sunday to Sunny Sunday seemed appropriate and the event proceeded under almost-perfect conditions.

Highlight of the afternoon was Peter Donhardt landing his first outdoor event All Gold scores for the 50-metre range.

To ensure the feat did not go unnoticed by his fellow archers, Donhardt successfully repeated the feat two ends later.

To top off the day, Donhardt was the winner with a total of 605 on adjusted scores, leading Lock home on 591 by 14 points.

Indoor archery continues at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park Friday at 7.30pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park 12.30pm Sunday.
