Veterans titles decided

LADIES VETERANS SINGLES: Runner-up Heather Richards with winner Jan Dowdell.

THE Port MacDonnell Bowls Club held its Veteran’s Men’s and Ladies Singles, with the women playing for the Rae Perryman Memorial and the men for the Barry Praetz Memorial.

For the women, Heather Richards defeated Jennie Tilley to play Jan Dowdell in the final.

With both players going end-for-end, a close game was enjoyed by all.

Dowdell finally got a break and claimed a strong 21-14 victory.

For the men, Terry Seiler defeated Des Horrigan in another close game, before Seiler won 24-11.

Danny Gaut and Chris Richards played out a tough match to chase a final berth.

Gaut flew out of the blocks but Richards’ determination closed the gap.

In the end Gaut held on for a well-deserved 21-16 victory.

The final was another tight contest, but Seiler defeated Gaut to claim the honours.

Tuesday social bowls was held in fine conditions, with two games of 10 ends of triples played.

Only one two-game winner was the team of Grant Perryman, Kel Butler and skip Lorraine Mackereth.

In the mid-week pennants Port MacDonnell Red 52 shots 6 points defeated Naracoorte RSL 48-2 at Naracoorte.

Lorraine Mackereth, Terry Seiler, Keith Dowdell and skip Bill Richards won 33-25, while Des Horrigan, Jan Dowdell, Kevin Henderson and skip Robert Hutchesson lost 19-23.

Port MacDonnell Blue 48-8 defeated Millicent Blue 38-0 at Millicent.

Ben Tilley, Danny Gaut, Lance Fisher and skip Jennie Tilley won 24-16, while Michael Glynn, Chris Negline, Barrie Schmidt and skip Carol Schmidt won 24-22.

in the women’s Friday pennant Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 team lost to Millicent Blue 50-6 to 45-2 at home.

Lyn Vanderley, Jennie Tilley, Carol Schmidt and skip Heather Richards lost 19-30, while Lorraine Mackereth, Sharon Perryman, Jan Dowdell and skip Judith Grosvenor won 26-20.

Division 2 lost to Naracoorte RSL 61-8 to 36-0 at home.

Shirley Taylor, Elaine Hutchesson, Cheryl Doddridge and skip Marilyn Sutton lost 18-33, while Danny Gaut, Jean Fisher, Heather Fox and skip Elaine Pruis lost 18-28.

Saturday’s Open pennant saw Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 claim the win against second-placed Mount Gambier Blue by 31 shots, 87-12 to 56-0 at home.

Paul Weir, Terry Seiler, Wayne Dowdell and skip Tim Wrightson won 32-17, Barrie Schmidt, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and skip Bill Richards won 30-21, while Greg Fisher, Judith Grosvenor, Kevin Henderson and skip Chris Richards won 25-18.

In Divsion 3, Port MacDonnell 67-2 lost to Millicent Blue 72-10.

Jimmy Williams, Bruce Bain, Jennie Tilley and skip Kel Butler lost 24-26, Michael Glynn, Lance Fisher, Donald Forbes and skip Victor Perryman lost 19-27, while John Naismith, Chris Negline, Kevin Osman and skip Danny Gaut won 24-19.

Division 4, 25-0 lost to Millicent Blue 102-12 at Millicent.

Jean Fisher, Terry Stone, Marilyn Sutton and skip Bill McGregor lost 11-31, Joe Pruis, Ben Tilley, Rod Sutton and skip Cheryl Doddridge lost 7-32, while Graham Hutchesson, Robyn Burley, Elaine Pruis and skip Kevin Norman lost 7-39.
