Break with tradition

DIVISION 1 WINNER: Sue Agars.

THE women from the Blue Lake Golf club broke with tradition of finishing their game of golf with lunch at the club bistro last week and ventured to Metro Bakery and Cafe, one of the many valued sponsors.

After lunch, presentations for the stableford competition were made with the score of the day of 41 points recorded by Jo Gogan, who after a long hiatus was pleased with her effort.

Off a 22 handicap, Sue Agars was the top scorer for Division 1 with 39 points which included no less than five pars and no scrubs.

Agars’ outward nine set the scene with 22 points and the inward 17 consolidated the win.

Not far behind handicapper Dianne Perryman will perhaps look to drop her own handicap of 21 after scoring 38 points, also with five pars but unfortunately a scrub on the par 4 13th probably cost her top spot.

New to Division 1 and off a handicap of 28, third-placed Karen Panagopolous was stiff to face a count-back after scoring 38 points.

Her card included two scrubs, a birdie on the 12th hole and a par on the 15th.

Jo Gogan’s 41 points in Division 2 can be attributed to a massive 26 points on the inward nine, with pars on the 10th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes after her outward score of 15 points would have given her a bit of concern, but having no scrubs helped.

Second-placed Lynda Nannings would have thought she had the top position in her grasp with 39 points from splits of 22/17 with pars on the fourth, fifth and 11th holes, plus only one scrub.

Third place went to Carol Melhuish who continued her recent impressive form to score 34 points, with splits of 17/17 but with four scrubs on her card was left thinking what could have been.

Nearest to pin second shot winner’s were Division 1’s Fiona Punton and Division 2’s Dianne Allen, while Rosemary Martland claimed the pro shot.

The nine-hole competition resulted in a tie between Shannon McDonnell and Beryl Mahoney with 15 points apiece.
