A CENTURY to Joshua Smith placed Mil Lel in a strong position after the opening day of Round 4 of the Hoggies Wines Barber Shield season.

A strike rate of 87.72 saw the opener post 100 runs from just 114 balls in an inspiring knock.

Smith took the majority of the strike, eventually caught off the bowling of Ben Hentschke with the total at 3/138.

after a couple of recent half-centuries, William Rowland was unable to keep the runs flowing, caught off Alex Hentschke for just eight, while Todd Carpenter fell for a duck.

Nick Walters then joined the run chase and managed a half-century to ensure the runs continued.

He finished the day unbeaten on 55, but no other Mil Lel batsman made any real runs.

Darcy Williamson offered 16 to the cause, Carey Megaw 12, Jack Miller 12 and Tim McInerney 13.

Mil Lel was bowled out in the 78th over for 234 runs to provide a real challenge for East this weekend.
